2020 ~ What a Year!

In a year where the way we live life has been disrupted by the worldwide pandemic virus, we at Bren-Mar Construction have adapted to changes necessary to continue to do what we do best…we build.  You can see our craftwork from Northville to Birmingham, Grand Blanc to Troy. We put the finishing touches on Guernsey Farms Dairy, we provided tenant improvements to several restaurants and retail. And we have kept the pace with a new ground-up office building.

Yes, we have had to change the way we do some things. But haven’t we all. You may find our faces covered at times, but you will still find our focus keen. Building represents hope for the future. We trust that we will survive this pandemic and return with determination to be productive communities once again.

Bren-Mar Construction has steadied a course for over 34 years. We aren’t going anywhere. You can depend on us to bring visions for your business to reality that too can stand the test of time.  The world we live in may have been temporarily disrupted ~ but just watch and see how we are emerging more determined, more creative, and Bren-Mar strong!

Mainstream Boutique

It begins with a space that needs a bit of TLC. It ends with an awesome transformation. That’s how the story began for Mainstream Boutique. There was a lot of behind the scenes work in progress before we began with the first swing of the hammer. But through careful coordination, skillful craftsmen and lots of hard work we created a beautiful space for Mainstream Boutique in Grand Blanc. When our clients bring in their own uniqueness the story always has a happy ending.

Bren-Mar can take any space and bring it up to code, make it functional, and then add just the right architectural touches to create an amazing finish. We are experienced at figuring out how to make it work when it seems it will not. We thrill at the task of providing our clients with something even better than expected. At Bren-Mar we can do it. It’s what we do best…we build!

Guernsey Farms Dairy

This is the tasty side of our job – a restaurant remodel that included the dairy products of Guernsey Farms Dairy served up at expanded dining, old fashioned soda fountain or right out of the dairy case. It was our pleasure to be a part of this family owned business as they prepared to celebrate 80 years with the remodel of their restaurant located in Northville, Michigan.

It began early in the year with closing the restaurant as we started with the demolition and then turned to the process of building fresh and new. The results provided an upgraded experience at Guernsey Farms Dairy with the dining room, soda fountain, new bar, retail store and dairy case with Guernsey merchandise. The new outside seating allows for enjoying a take-out order or licking to your hearts content an ice cream cone made with one of the now offered 48 flavors.

Bren-Mar brought our talented craftsmen in to provide expert finish to the remodel with new millwork, lighting, revised design and fresh painted walls. With the careful coordination of contractors we kept the process of renovation on track – until the virus sent us packing. Not to be deterred, we maintained focus from behind the scenes working out details from home so that in early May we were back on site and ready to finish the job begun. Guernsey Farms opened for take-out orders the first week of June.

New to the Guernsey Farms Dairy experience is the addition of a bar that boasts the distinctive combination of bright blue tiles and custom woodwork. The back bar features a unique design highlighting a cow synonymous with all things dairy.

The new look outside is as delightful as their ice cream! With the look of spilt milk across the parking lot and cheery tables and chairs to welcome you it is sure to be the place to go for ice cream and all things ‘Guernsey’. An old fashioned soda fountain, great food, 48 flavors of ice cream and new boozy shakes makes the Guernsey Farms Dairy project one of our tastiest.

Bren-Mar and Shake Shack

Bren-Mar Construction is shaking it up with two new Shake Shack restaurants in southeast Michigan. We’re proud to be the contractor of choice when Shake Shack opens a new restaurant in Michigan. You will find “each Shake Shack is constructed thoughtfully and purposefully to fit its unique environment, using a creative design approach that creates places and experiences like nowhere else. Think walls made of reclaimed antique barn wood siding, one-of-a-kind murals commissioned from local artists, living green walls and lighting installations inspired by local surroundings. All good in the wood!”

Shake Shack Somerset Mall

Shake Shack is an environmentally conscience company that strives to lessen its footprint while providing only the freshest and finest ingredients sourced by like-minded artisanal producers. They are invested in the local communities and people around them. We are fortunate to welcome these additional Shake Shacks to Somerset Collection Mall in Troy, and at Arbor Hills Mall in Ann Arbor. It has been a privilege to work together with Shake Shack in constructing these new restaurants.

Shake Shack Ann Arbor

Keeping the ‘tasty’ side of construction going, you will find Bren-Mar Construction working to freshen up other local restaurants in southeast Michigan this year. Additionally we have crews working on medical offices, banking facilities and retail. All this work is working up an appetite for us – think we’ll just head over to Shake Shack for a great burger and a shake!

Project Update: crust bakery

If you’re local to the metro Flint/Detroit area you’ve undoubtedly heard of the crust bakery. Heck, even if you’re not local there’s a good chance you may have heard of them. They ship their famed pastries and breads all across the country and will soon be able to share even more sweetness. Construction is nearing completion on a major addition and renovation project that has taken place without impacting bakery operations. I’m going to pause so you can take a minute to really think about that. We’ve more than DOUBLED their space and reconfigured the ENTIRE layout WITHOUT IMPACTING BAKERY OPERATIONS. Okay, got it? Now let’s quickly cover  the final few items that are wrapping up: paint is going up on walls, epoxy floors are down, sealed concrete is all complete and, drumroll please, new bakery equipment is arriving!

Pro’s of completion: more bakery to share more goodness with more people.

Con’s of completion: no day-old bakery goodies for the crews; our next jobsite probably won’t smell as good.

Project Update: Dentist Office

If you haven’t seen what all we’ve been up to this summer, it’s a lot of restaurants and a bakery. Too many sweets? We’ve got that covered too! Arguably the project closest to us (we share the same building) is a complete renovation of a dentist office. And when we say complete we mean it. This project stripped the space down to the ‘bones’ and even replaced some of them. With all new plumbing, heating, and electrical we’re now finishing up the ceilings,  drywall and millwork. Paint is drying on the walls and finishes are all coming together. By September, the dentist will have a fantastic new space to fill cavities for years to come. And it’s a good thing with that new bakery expansion just across the street.

Check out Family Dental and when you’re by, pop in to say hi to us too!

another! Buddy’s Pizza

Maybe you’ve seen them around the metro Detroit region, well guess what? They’re bringing their pizza west! Bren-Mar is excited to again team with the amazing people of Buddy’s Pizza on their latest restaurant.

As you can see from the pictures, our crews are quickly finishing the interior framing along with the electrical and mechanical rough-ins. Wall finishes are in progress and millwork in the dining room is starting to shape up. Did you see that kitchen hood? Bring on the pizza pies! Can’t wait to see you all soon enjoying a slice and a cool beverage out on that patio.

Follow Buddy’s Pizza for updates!

Love Is In The Air

It’s February and love is in the air. And by “love” of course we mean the smell of fresh baked cookies. After all, they’re one in the same, right?

Breaking ground on what is likely the best smelling jobsite in the region, Bren-Mar Construction is excited to partner with crust – a baking company in our hometown of Fenton on their massive expansion. The facility will more than double in size -from 5,000sf to 13,000sf- with growth in all areas of their operation; from baking and shipping to retail and dining.

Who’s That Lady?

While the guys of Bren-Mar regularly make the rounds to jobsites and meetings with clients, behind the scenes are a couple ladies helping make their jobs easier – wherever they may be. You’ve likely spoken to but perhaps never seen Devon or Erica. These ladies are like the Superwoman of Bren-Mar, rarely seen but always at the ready.

While Devon handles more day-to-day things around the office than we’d care to admit, Erica works from afar in our affectionately referred to Bren-Ver satellite location in Colorado. And when they’re not busy working, both of these gals love to spend time enjoying their families and the outdoors.

Devon is a sucker for a beautiful garden and has been known to make day trips to Midland or Grand Rapids to enjoy the peaceful serenity of Dow Gardens and Meijer Gardens. While she maintains that her own garden is quite modest, we’ve heard that it has it’s own pond so we do have our doubts. She is also brightening the office with it’s bounty all spring and summer, which we truly enjoy! And if she’s not at the garden you might find her on the shores of Lake Michigan. Having grown up North of Muskegon she just can’t resist those expansive beaches and cool blue waves, no matter the season. And who could blame her, really? We love the lake too!

While she misses the abundance of beautiful lakes, large and small, that Michigan offers, Erica has been embracing what water she is able to find out in Colorado. Trout fishing in small mountain lakes and hiking along rivers. While the scenery is a bit different, it is equally beautiful in it’s own regard. She has enjoyed exploring new towns and has found Golden to be a favorite, and not for the reason you might think -cough, Coors Brewery, cough-. The town is home to Clear Creek History Park which has it’s very own chickens that kids, adults and dogs love to stop by and visit!

Welcome Rich and Shake Shack!

Bren-Mar Construction welcomes Rich Cossettini as the Superintendent for the new Shake Shack project located in historic downtown Detroit. Rich is a history buff who has a true passion for construction and over 25 years in the industry. He’ll be putting all that knowledge to good use on this project. In addition to welcoming Rich to the team, we also want to welcome Shake Shack as this will be their first restaurant in Michigan. We can’t wait for the doors to open!
